History-French Antique Bed Boutique-History

History

A Room With A Vieux Antiques was born in the mid-1980's. Its founder, Jeffrey Diamond was a former corporate executive who was responsible for starting new healthcare businesses or fixing existing businesses that were financially ailing.

Mr. Diamond's objective in his entry into the antique world was simple: locate, purchase and import from France "la crème de la crème" of French antiques. Mr. Diamond has been traveling to France every other month for the past twenty years in a quest to find the most unique and the best antiques that the French have to offer. He is in and out of private homes and crisscrosses the French countryside with unparalleled frequency.

Mr. Diamond's clients can best be described as "repeat offenders." Once they buy something from one of his stores, they are customers forever. One can often hear his clients bemoaning the fact that they cannot find anything that they do not like in his store. The challenge then becomes either limiting the number of purchases that they make or starting fresh and redecorating their homes with the continuing flow of treasures from his stores.

Most antique stores send antique pieces to outside sources for restoration. This process minimizes expenses but permits limited control on the final quality or outcome. Not the case with Mr. Diamond! Striving for the ultimate in customer satisfaction, A Room With A Vieux employs a team of full-time skilled craftspeople who can meet any customer need. This includes a standard review of all antiques for structural integrity coupled with a complimentary revitalization of the patina on each item sold at A Room With A Vieux.

If customers wish to have their antique selections retrofitted to accommodate modern day conveniences or altered in size or structure, his team can do it. The colors of the wood finishes can be lightened, darkened, faux-painted or gold-leafed, depending on customer preferences.

Always eager to satisfy customer needs, about ten years ago, Mr. Diamond custom-developed an expertise in transforming French beds of varying European sizes to American Standard size classifications. Simply stated, A Room With A Vieux has created the "Midas touch" to converting odd-size French bed frames to accommodate modern day American queen and king size beds. No special-sized mattresses and box springs and no custom-fitted bed linens! Mr. Diamond's clients rave about the transformation of their bedrooms from stuffy straight-lined boring American beds to the more romantic French beds of yesteryear.

The most challenging of A Room With a Vieux's bed creations are the one-of-a-kind king size beds that clients find awe-inspiring. These beauties are the result of one of two main methodologies:

(1.) Elongating and re-sculpting or recreating the structural components of a smaller bed to a desired larger size or

(2.) Creatively and artistically joining together identical pairs of beds in such a manner as to make the joining visually undetectable.

The abovementioned two processes can take from three to four weeks per bed for completion, but "the end product is a work of art," says one of A Room With A Vieux's clients.

Customers can pick from a large assortment of already recreated bed frames or design their own masterpiece from an ever-growing collection of close to two hundred French beds on display. Eighty percent of Mr. Diamond's beds are sold to out of state clients. The beds are easily reassembled at their final destination and use a sturdy metal rail construction that is even strong enough to support a waterbed. A Room With A Vieux has created a niche in the antique market that is enviable!
